Terms of Service

Agreement

These terms apply to the Eden Index mobile app, the clerkofeden.com website, and the public API at api.clerkofeden.com (together, the "Service"). By using any of them, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

What the Service is

Eden Index publishes a score for US counties and metro areas built from twelve categories of federal open data, with weighting you can adjust. It's an informational and comparison tool. It is not financial, legal, medical, tax, or relocation advice, and it should not be the sole basis for a decision like buying property, moving, or investing. A score is a percentile within a stated pool of places, not a grade or a guarantee of quality of life.

Accuracy of data

Scores, indicators, and rankings are built from third-party sources, mostly federal government data, each with its own publication schedule, methodology, and margin of error. We do our best to represent that data honestly, including stating explicitly where a category is unmeasured for a given place rather than guessing. We don't guarantee that any value, score, or rank is complete, current, or free of error, and we're not liable for decisions made based on it. Using the app

You may use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes. Custom weightings and saved lists you create stay on your device — see the Privacy Policy for how that data is (and isn't) handled.

You agree not to reverse-engineer the app to circumvent rate limits on the API, misrepresent Eden Index data as your own original research without attribution, or use the Service in a way that disrupts it for other users.

Using the API

The public API at api.clerkofeden.com is free, unauthenticated, and read-only. You're welcome to build on it. We ask that:

• Attribution and stated limitations travel with any data you republish or build on, the same way they travel with the data here.
• You stay within reasonable request volume — the API applies rate limits, and requests that exceed them may be throttled or refused.
• You don't represent API data as more authoritative, current, or complete than it actually is.

We may change, version, or discontinue API endpoints. Where practical, we'll do that with advance notice rather than without warning.

Ownership

The app's design, original text, and the way indicators are combined into a score (the methodology) belong to Eden Index. The underlying government source data belongs to its original publishers and is used and redistributed under the open-data terms each publisher makes it available under.

No warranty, limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Eden Index is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including decisions made in reliance on a score or indicator.

Changes

We may update these terms as the Service changes. We'll update the date at the top of this page when we do. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
